The
Airport Health Club believes
that therapeutic massage is an important segment of an
integrated approach to a
good body care and is especially valuable for those in
regular fitness training.
All
therapists at the Airport
Health Club are Certified
Massage Therapists and many are Nationally
Certified in Therapeutic
Massage and Bodywork. They maintain their
own private practice and each massage therapist is a
member
of one or more professional
association or
guild.
Their
combined skills of various
bodywork techniques and styles offer
a spectrum of techniques and styles to address the
varying needs of our clients. A
contoured body cushion that supports the postural
integrity and comfort
of the body is available. It is used for various orthopedic
positioning and for comfortable pregnancy positioning.

Types of Massage Therapy Available
Massage is the science and art of touching the body for
therapeutic results and the promotion of health. It
involves mainly the use of hands-on basic strokes and
passive movement of the joints. Occasionally mechanical
devices for positioning, vibration, and hot or cold
application are used.
- Chair Massage, the
Massage Department offers on-site chair massage everyday.
You can sign up at the chair
massage with the therapist on duty, or you can reserve
your time in advance by calling ahead to the Service
Desk.
- Swedish-Esalen Massage forms
the basis for nurturing, relaxing therapeutic massage.
It is a blend of traditional
disciplines using long gliding strokes, kneading, friction
and percussion of the skin and muscle tissue, along
with joint mobilization for the release of tension
and stress.
- Sports Massage utilizes
many of the classic techniques and newly evolving
specific techniques designed to
provide therapeutic value for the needs of competitive
aerobic
and fitness athletes. Pre-event massage can help
warm up muscle groups, achieve maximum performance,
and
reduce potential muscle soreness. It enables recovery
from post
event exertion, tissue injury and prolongs athletic
endurance.
Other types of bodywork
available with various practitioners here at The Airport
Health
Club:
- Trigger Point Work

Benefits of Massage
Simple touch is an essential human need. It is
our most ancient, and most basic healing
modality.
- Touch
puts
us "in touch" with ourselves
and our capacity for healing.
- Touch increases
body awareness
and opens
the way to a sense of well-being.
- Massage
can lift our spirits, relieving stress
and
depression.
- Massage enhances optimal
functioning of all body systems.
- Depending on the
techniques used, massage may either
soothe or stimulate the nervous system and body
processes.
- Physical and mental fatigue are addressed.
Muscles
are relieved of lactic acid buildup resulting
from strenuous
exercise. Recovery is accelerated. Reducing muscular
tension re-establishes body balance and posture.
- Massage can bring tone to flaccid muscles and soften
over-
stressed muscles. Vascular and lymphatic circulation
are stimulated,
thus cleansing the body at the cellular level.
Breathing patterns improve, facilitating relaxation
and improved
cellular oxygenation.
- Relaxation fosters overall
ease in the body, potentially releasing disease,
and inviting
deep integration of body-mind-spirit.
We invite you to make regular massage a priority in
your program for fitness and well-being.
